How to do Cast Iron Pipe Hardness Test

DINSEN Cast iron pipes serve as critical infrastructure for conveying fluids such as water and gas. Their performance directly impacts the safety and lifespan of engineering projects. Hardness and tensile strength are core indicators for measuring their quality, and rigorous experimental testing is essential to ensure performance compliance.

Experimental Procedure — Hardness Test (Taking Brinell Hardness HBW as an example):

Sampling: Representative specimens shall be taken from finished pipes or test bars cast from the same heat. The specimens typically must include the pipe wall cross-section.

DN50 hardness

Specimen Preparation: The test surface shall be ground or polished to ensure it is smooth, flat, and free of scale and impurities.

Hardness observation

Test Point Selection: According to standards (e.g., ISO 6506-1, ASTM E10, EN 10003-1), multiple test points shall be evenly distributed on the specimen (typically avoiding edges and defect areas).

Hardness Tester

Result Calculation:
Calculate the Brinell hardness value (HBW) based on the average indentation diameter using reference tables or formulas. Report the average value and range of multiple test points.
