Our hardness test is a rigorous “pressure interview”:
- Testing Standard: Strictly following the Brinell hardness test method in EN545 standard.
- Core Parameters: Using a 5mm diameter carbide ball indenter, a test force of up to 750KN is applied and held for 10 seconds, simulating the long-term high pressure that pipelines endure in complex underground environments.
- Quality Commitment: Ultimately, we ensure that the hardness value of every section of DINSEN ductile iron pipe is far below the 230HB upper limit specified in the EN545 standard.
This is not merely a compliance figure, but solid proof of the superior impact resistance and wear resistance of DINSEN ductile iron pipes. We firmly believe that only materials that can withstand the most stringent testing can bear the responsibility for the century-long safety of urban infrastructure.
The principle of the Brinell hardness test is as follows: A steel ball or cemented carbide ball indenter with diameter D is used. A test force F is applied. After the specimen is subjected to pressure, the contact area S between the indenter and the specimen is calculated from the diameter d of the indentation left by the indenter after lifting. This area is then divided by the test force. The symbol for the indenter is HBS when it is a steel ball and HBW when it is a cemented carbide ball. k is a constant (1/g = 1/9.80665 = 0.102).
Hardness testing is a method for evaluating the surface resistance to deformation of ductile iron materials. By measuring the hardness value, the strength, wear resistance, and service life of the material can be indirectly reflected. The main purpose of testing ductile iron materials is to ensure that their performance, quality, and safety meet the requirements of EN545 standards. As an important component of the mechanical property testing of ductile iron pipes and fittings, hardness testing provides a scientific basis for design, production, and quality control.
