How to Correctly Identify EN545 Ductile Iron Pipes and Fittings

According to EN545, the markings on ductile iron pipes and fittings should be clear, durable and include the following:

DI pipe marking tape​

  1. Pipe marking labels
  • DS: Manufacturer’s Name or Trademark
  • ISO2531: Implementation Standard Number (e.g., EN545)
  • DN1000: Nominal Diameter
  • C25: Pressure Rating
  • L6000: Effective Length
  • 2025: Date of Production

2. Socket pipe marking

  • 25: Year of Production
  • DN1000: Nominal Diameter
  • DI:  Ductile iron

Spigot pipe marking

  • ‘Scissors’ means the ductile iron pipe can be cut. The purpose of cutting is to cut into lengths less than 6 meters according to the final length during on-site installation.
  • EN545 stipulates that in the same batch of pipes delivered, the proportion of “short pipes” caused by cutting is allowed to be 5%-10%.

All the above signs should be made by casting or cold stamping to ensure that they are clearly visible during transportation, storage and installation.
