Visitors to the DINSEN ductile iron facility are often curious about how ductile iron pipes are manufactured. The raw materials for ductile iron pipes are primarily high-purity molten iron or pig iron, requiring low phosphorus and low sulfur content to ensure the basic quality of the pipe material. During the manufacturing process, spheroidizing agents (such as magnesium alloys) must be added to make the graphite spherical, which is crucial for the high strength of ductile iron pipes.
Simultaneously, inoculants are added to promote graphitization and ensure uniform mechanical properties of the ductile iron pipe. To adjust the composition or reduce costs, scrap steel, recycled materials, and carburizing agents can also be added. Through the combination of these raw materials, ductile iron pipes ultimately possess both the essence of iron and the performance of steel.
